Chairman Darragh MacAnthony claims the sell-out crowd has confirmed his belief that the city can sustain Premier League football. Darragh MacAnthony insists that Peterborough United will one day be playing in front of 20,000 crowds in a brand new all-seater stadium.
Darragh MacAnthony, who ironically will miss the match as he's on holiday in the Bahamas, said: "I am not shocked that we have sold out for this game. It's a sign of things to come and shows the potential of this club.
"The city is ever-expanding and I am convinced that we can attain average crowds of between 11-13,000 in the Championship and definitely crowds of up to 20,000 in the Premier League.
"Our long-term aim is to attract thousands of fans over the next 10 years to add to the already passionate fan base. It can and will be done!
"We need to set our goals high on and off the field. This season I wanted an average home gate of 5,500 and with some big home matches to come I am sure we can get to that figure.
"Of course it helps when the team entertains the crowds with goals which is what we have been doing this season."
Peterborough United have plans to initially build a 15,000 all-seater stadium at a location yet to be announced. Darragh MacAnthony confirmed he is in constant contact with his chosen construction company who will be charged with adding a further 5-10,000 seats in the future.
