Barry Fry described Darragh MacAnthony as 'his hero' and 'his knight in shining armour'. It's an open secret that Fry has been finding it extremely difficult to keep Peterborugh afloat financially since taking control at London Road in October, 2003.
Windfalls from transfers, TV documentaries and cracking cup draws have all helped, but long-term Peterborough United were set for a struggle.
Not any more it appears. Fry has pulled another monetary rabbit from his hat. Peterborough United look more secure financially than at any other time in their history.
Fry, who insists he has put over 1 million of his own money into Peterborough United, said: "I have taken the club as far as I can. I have no more resources to put in and I firmly believe Darragh MacAnthony's arrival will be in the best interests of the club and the city.
"Darragh MacAnthony is a football nut with as much passion about the game as me. I still cannot believe he turned up on our doorstep, but I'm glad he has.
"He's my hero and my knight in shining armour. His business expertise will help the club enormously on and off the field."
Darragh MacAnthony has already made an undisclosed cash injection and acquired shares in the football club. He expects to become the sole owner of Peterborough United within months.
